Short-tailed shearwater
Puffinus tenuirostrisThe short-tailed shearwater breeds in Bass Strait (between the Australian mainland and Tasmania). This species is regularly seen in New Zealand waters, especially when birds are on their spring and autumn migrations. Less familiar to observers, this species might be recorded as the sooty shearwater, which is very similar and abundant.
