White-chinned petrel
Procellaria aequinoctialisThe white-chinned petrel breeds in burrows on islands around the subantarctic region. The species' main breeding area is in South Georgia. However, around 200,000 pairs are estimated to breed in New Zealand, mainly on Disappointment and Antipodes Islands. This species is difficult to distinguish at sea from the black petrel and the Westland petrel, and misidentifications can be expected.
